Murder Mystery Weekend
Our club took part in a murder mystery weekend organised by club member Ian Gourlay on Saturday November 13th. In total 30 people travelled to The Gresham Hotel in Cork where our event was held. The evening started off with everyone arriving in the dining area, dressed as their character. From here everyone received further information about their character before they had to mingle with the crowd and try and solve the two murders that had occurred, those of Lady Amanda Cudham and Oakley Smith. There were many happenings throughout the evening including dodgy dealings and bets with the local bookmaker Hegarty Roebuck (Martin Walsh) in which some members are still awaiting payments on winning bets to DCI Dawdley (Bridget Walsh) trying to solve the murder with her miniature crime scene, which happened to be childrens toy plastic figures. After a couple of hours of swapping information and gaining more knowledge about the characters it was time to be split into groups to come up with the solution to the murders and who actually was the murderer. There was six solutions heard but unfortunatley none of them were correct. In the end DCI Dawdley announced that the murderer was infact the character of Jo Carpenter (Natalie Brown). Natalie managed to keep this secret from all the investigators for the night. Next up was the prize giving. The prize for the richest person at the end of the game was Carol Walsh, and the other prize on the night for the person who carried out the role of their character the best. This was won by Frances Finn. Well done to both who won prizes kindly sponsored by the Gresham Hotel. A great night was had by all and we would like to thank Ian Gourlay for making this possible, as a lot of time and effort was put into the organising of the event.
Mary Pratt Perpetual Trophy
On Sunday November 7th 12 club members took part in the annual Mary Pratt perpetual trophy, hosted by the Lismore Badminton club. It was a successful day for the club with Ian Gourlay and Eileen Keoghan reaching the plate final and Karen Pepper and her partner Kevin Wilkinson reaching the cup final. Ian and Eileen were unlucky to lose out in the final to a Lismore pairing but Karen made no mistakes in her final and finished the day on a winning note for Kilmac. Well done to Karen and Kevin who had to make there way through a long tough draw in order to win the cup. Well done to all those from the club who took part, they were Chrissie Shanahan, Eileen Keoghan, Rachael Walsh, Carol Walsh, Natalie Brown, Karen Pepper, Stephen Walsh, Frank Costigan, Michael Brown, Conor Brown, Ian Gourlay and Pat Lenane. Also a big thank you to the lismore club for running another great tournament, we look forward to returning again next year.
